COVID-19: A Letter from the Executive Team

At One Urban, lifestyle is paramount but we recognize that in the face of COVID-19, life has changed significantly. With self-isolation in full effect, the comfort of our homes have become our safe havens and have never served a more powerful purpose.

With conditions evolving so rapidly from one day to the next, we continue to keep abreast of critical updates and are committed to making responsive decisions that benefit our employees and our most valued clients.

Just like you, we have families and children of our own and we have been doing everything in our power to prioritize their health, well-being and safety as we move through these very uncertain times.

At One Urban, we build communities for a living but we have never been more reminded about the importance of solidarity during this time. Standing together right now is essential. That’s why the safety of our employees, clients and community members is our greatest priority. To do our part, we have moved all company operations remotely and are working with our team virtually, to ensure all One Urban projects continue to progress well at this time.

Despite everything that’s going on, we wanted to offer some reassurance to our clients with some clear updates about how One Urban is staying the course during this time.

The impact of COVID-19 to projects

The great news is that the COVID-19 pandemic has not stopped our day-to-day operations entirely. However, the government of Ontario has scaled back construction as part of the mandated closure of all non-essential businesses, which has impacted our construction schedule for our commercial and residential projects, including 430 ESSA. The upside is that we have redirected our efforts, working diligently behind the scenes with our consultants and trades to effectively prepare so that we can go full steam once the closures are lifted. Our main priority is that our purchasers can take occupancy of their units without additional delays.

How we’re supporting our clients

Given the uncertainty of the current situation, we are committed to keeping the gateways of communication open with our purchasers and commercial tenants at this time. As per the recommendations of the Tarion Home Warranty, we have notified our purchasers that the COVID-19 pandemic may cause delays and that we will provide ongoing updates as we have them. As a team, we have also made ourselves fully accessible for any immediate questions, concerns or assistance during this time.

For our commercial tenants, we have been proactive and offered abated rent and payment schedules to support them. Many of these tenants have been with us for decades and so we are working together to ensure we can weather the effects of this pandemic in the best way possible.

How we’re supporting the community

Doing our part extends beyond social distancing and we wanted to make sure we were supporting families during this time. With so many people out of work right now, One Urban is connected to two community initiatives, including Haven on the Queensway, by donating fresh produce to families in need. It’s important for us to know people are eating and staying healthy with everything that’s going on.

At One Urban, we are committed to doing our part and supporting our team, our clients and the community to the best of our ability. We hope that you and your families stay safe and healthy, while working towards getting back to normal times.
