A transition into new habits

Workplaces across Canada have undergone massive change, leading many to create new habits as they transition to working from home. As our communities shift, One Urban is always looking for innovative and functional ways to adapt with them.

Work from home

The reality is that most people don’t have an extra room at home to dedicate to a full-time office. Oftentimes, condos are not equipped with a den or these rooms are just simply not set up for a working environment.

Many are learning that you don’t need a full room to have a comfortable and productive work space. Here are a few ways to incorporate a work space into your pre-existing living areas:

  1. Try incorporating an office into your main seating area by pulling a desk right up alongside your sofa to create a seamless live/work space. This also allows your desk to double as a side table.

  2. Another solution is to try adding a console near an entrance or hallway. They're often narrow enough to be placed along walls in hallways and passageways leading to rooms.

  3. Rather than bookshelves, consider wall-mounted shelving. A desk can be neatly tucked under a bookshelf to maintain storage and allow for the usage of floor space underneath it.

These types of solutions can be integrated into unit layouts for future builds. As live/work habits evolve, One Urban may consider including units that are optimized for the at home worker.

Co-working space

Co-working spaces play a valuable role in creating a temporary office environment.

As companies start reopening, some employers could opt to split up their teams allowing some workers to return to the office while others remain at home or set up in a co-working facility.

The lobby connection space at 430 ESSA gives new meaning to working remotely as a practical workspace with free WIFI. Residents can use this as a workspace for a change of scenery from their unit and boost productivity without leaving home. There are still few units available at 430 ESSA, schedule a contactless appointment today.

One Urban’s latest developments in Barrie and Oakville also include co-working spaces amongst many diverse amenities thoughtfully designed with open seating areas.

Of course with any shared facility comes ensuring the safety and well-being of those using it. One Urban encourages practicing physical distancing, and sanitizing your workspace with each use to protect our communities.
