Incorporating Sustainable Energy Solutions
One Urban is committed to innovation and change for the good of the environment, which is why we have prioritized reducing our carbon footprint. We have made a conscious effort to incorporate the use of sustainable energy systems in both of our upcoming purpose-built rental buildings in Oakville and Barrie.
Geothermal heating and cooling systems for multi-residential buildings offer the greatest reliability, energy efficiency and carbon reduction compared to any other technology available today. The geothermal borefield located under the building acts like a thermal battery eliminating the need for a cooling tower and heating boiler. This results in an approximately 80% carbon reduction compared to a conventional system.
In addition to being efficient, geothermal systems also have the advantage of being extremely resilient with a lifespan which will outlast the building. “We have partnered with the top geothermal company in Canada, Diverso Energy, who are responsible for the design, installation and operation of our geothermal system that will provide clean and efficient heating and cooling for years to come.” says Joe Villar, One Urban Principal and CFO. “Their track record for successful geothermal systems is unparalleled in the industry.” says Villar. “It’s great to see progressive developers like One Urban adopting low carbon technologies which benefit both the occupants and the planet” says Tim Weber CEO Diverso Energy.
LED lighting systems are energy efficient, don’t produce as much heat as the traditional incandescent bulbs and are safer to use. Carbon dioxide, a harmful waste product that is a major pollutant, is produced when electricity is generated. Since LED bulbs require less energy to run, less CO2 is produced as a result. They are also ecologically friendly as their composition is made up of non-toxic materials and are 100% recyclable.

Using an energy modeler, we estimated the amount of energy that will be saved as a result of incorporating both geothermal and LED lighting systems in our upcoming Oakville development:
A 48% reduction in hydro usage per year
Savings of over 2 million liters of water per year
Reduction of GHG (Greenhouse Gas) emissions by 66%
